The best author website I've seen in a long, long time
Here is a link to the best author website I've seen in a long, long time. It probably took the author an hour or two to put it together (probably longer than that to think of it and do some of the writing). What a fantastic idea!

I wrote the above before I finished reading the entire site (takes about six minutes to read the entire site). Apparently, using her primitive technology, some things did take a bit more time, but she eventually discovered a faster way.

Please note that she does send you to another of her websites that is not nearly as good. Indeed, for book promotion or easy of reading, it doesn't work at all. To order the book, she sends you to Amazon.com. I think a lot of people will order her book. I'm certainly tempted.

Definitely one of the best booksites I've seen in a long time. The integration to Amazon.com is lacking but because it's a big idea, I don't really mind.

Maybe I'm just missing something here, but what's so great about it? I could not think of a single reason to go beyond the first page. No indication whatsoever what the site's purpose is or why I should care. That first page strikes me as something my 14-year-old grandson might do, thinking it is "soo kewl," but it leaves me with no clue as to what it's all about and, thus, no reason to continue. I got as far as the third page before I gave up and only went that far on the basis of your recommendation.

How about blogging about why you find this site so fantastic? Inquiring minds want to know! (At least, this one does...)

On a slow dialup system, I didn't think it worked. I felt like a prize heifer being led along by a ring through my nose! Yep, I loved the idea but the execution of it was painfully slow and in normal surfing I would not have continued to the end. I wish her well with her book - in both colours!

Silenced Press has a nice clean website. Not clever like the one above, but it should help sell the book.

I thought the website I featured might cause a problem for a slow dialup connection because it consists of fairly large graphic images on each page. But with 60 to 80% of people in the U.S. now having access to a fast connection (I don't know the exact number but it's in that range), it can still reach a wide audience.

If you quit after the third page, you were not her audience at all. If you went to the fourth page, you would have seen her books. Terrible covers, by the way. But, again, probably not bad covers for her audience.

The reason I thought her website was so good is because it was directly targeted at a certain group of people who would like her humor -- probably the same people who would like her book and talk it up. The website would only help her readers talk up her book.

Her website would not work for most books, but it is a great website given her likely audience. Not having read her book, I don't know for sure that her website is targeting her potential readers, but I would guess that it is.

A great website is one that sells a book to its target audience. That simple. This is a great website.

I beg to differ. I have medium-speed DSL at my house...it took WAY too long to load. I only clicked 3 times before I got bored. In my opinion, NOT a good website at all. It didn't give me any idea of what sort of site I'd stumbled upon or why I should click the arrows. She should have skipped the first 2 pages, and gotten to the page with the books. Then, had some sort of small nav bar or something (also in dry erase marker...'cause I think that was fun), so you could skip to the parts you wanted to read.

Very few will have patience for this. Even with high-speed connections.

This is great. Lots of discussion, lots of controversy, lots of opinions. And I still think it is one of the best author websites I've seen in a long, long time. Very different. Targeted to her audience. And, yes, susceptible to being clicked away from by those who have slow Internet connections.

I think I might have to post more BEST something or others. It brings out the spirit of discussion.

Thanks for all your thoughts. Keep adding them. This is the true spirit of the Internet: sharing and networking.

I came across the site through another link (maybe Seth Godin's blog?) a couple of days ago and loved it.

Then again, I'm on broadband and have a quirky sense of humor, so I'm probably exactly the target audience.

The screens turned rapidly for me, and I was intrigued from the get-go. I thought it was hilarious, and it had me chuckling and totally curious about the book. How could anyone resist such unconventional creativity?

I went through the whole site. Guess I liked her humor. Laughed outloud when she changed over to writing on her stove! Maybe it doesn't tell us about the book right off, but, hey, I had a spare few minutes to be entertained.

Wonder what would work for novels done as eBooks . . . Gotta definitely get creative for that . . .!
